The Texas State Global News Team Guyana Trip 2018

Brenden Snow

SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Texas State Global News Team announced Monday they will be traveling to Guyana in January 2018. The team will be embedded with the Texas State Department of Respiratory Care student group.

The Global News team is a group of five -to- six students from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Holly Wise, the founder of the team and a lecturer at Texas State, is responsible for viewing applications and selecting the members.

The team is tasked with documenting information gathered from observing and interviewing the people of the village. The respiratory care group will be setting up clinics and going to local schools for free asthma screening.

It is an all day job as they normally follow a tight, long schedule, starting around 7 a.m. and ending around midnight. With the exception of two recreational days set aside.

“What’s a day like abroad when you’re with me? Working. You’re working,” said Wise.

This will be a new experience for Wise and her crew as they will be traveling farther south this year than in the previous two trips, when they traveled to Nicaragua. Those trips lasted two weeks, while this trip will last just 11 days.

The trip will be from Jan. 2 -to- Jan. 13 and cost students $2,804. That will cover airfare, two meals a day, lodging, health insurance and the application fees.

Information on possible future trips can be found in the Study Abroad tab at http://www.txstate.edu or go to their website for more https://txstglobalnews.wordpress.com.
