SAN MARCOS, Texas — The spring 2018 Mass Communication
Career Fair will be held in the LBJ Student Center Ballroom this Thursday from
noon to 4 p.m.
The event will host 19 or more registered employers who
will be looking to hire for internships, part-time positions and full-time
positions. All students and alumni are welcome to attend this event. Students
must bring their student ID and alumni must bring a form of ID or remember their
student ID number to enter.
Nicole Hengst, a lecturer at Texas State, said she
encourages students to attend, even if a student is unsure of what they are
looking for.
“Events like this are a great way to meet somebody,”
said Hengst. “To actually look somebody in the eye, shake their hand and begin
a relationship with them”.
Resumes and business cards including contact
information are strongly advised to bring to the fair. Resumes should be clean
and legible with room to be a little creative. Business cards may include
LinkedIn web link if it isn’t too long.
Career Services offer many resources including the
Career Closet. Students can rent professional attire for as cheap as the cost
to dry clean the clothing. This service will be closed during the career fair,
so students who decide to use this resource should plan ahead.
Hengst said to practice presenting yourself in preparation
for the event.
“You are your own brand,” said Hengst. “Know that
you have value”.
